Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the environmental hazards of fall for elderly women living in community.

Methods: The study utilized the cross-sectional descriptive design. The study subjects were recruited from a public health center in S city. Inclusion criteria were elderly women who were over 65-year-old and had fallen at least once in previous year. The total subjects were 88. The study scales were composed of total 51 items measuring demographic characteristics, information related to health, environmental hazards, and information of fall. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics analysis.

Results: Among elderly women, 30.7% had experienced 2 falls and 11.4% had experienced more than two falls. Sixty eight percent of elderly women reported experiencing fall in the previous one year. At least one housing environmental problem was reported by 98.9%. The most common housing environmental problems (93.1%) were found in bathroom and toilet.

Conclusion: Home assessment and environmental modification play an important role in reducing the risk of falls. Fall-prevention strategies and interventions that take into account interactions between the environment, health status and behavioral patterns of the elderly women can be effective for improving function and reducing falls among community-dwelling the elderly women.
